Gratitude: Connecting Us to What Matters Most

Thanksgiving is a time to pause, reflect, and give thanks—not just for what we’ve achieved, but for the people and communities that make those achievements meaningful. Gratitude is powerful because it opens our hearts both outward and inward: celebrating our connections with others while acknowledging our own growth with kindness and self-compassion.

During this season of thanks, I want to share three reflections on gratitude and how it can inspire us as leaders to create lasting impact.

1. Celebrating Connections

We are continually amazed by the stories you’ve shared about how this newsletter has impacted you. When times were challenging, these connections reminded us to keep going. Whether it’s a new approach you tried, a perspective you embraced, or a connection you strengthened, these moments remind me of the power we have to inspire and support one another.

Gratitude in Action:

  • Think of one person who has supported or inspired you this year. Send them a quick text, email, or handwritten note today to express your thanks.

  • Take a moment to acknowledge your own strength with grace—remembering that growth isn't always linear and that's perfectly okay. Write down three moments where you showed resilience.

2. Embracing Lessons Learned

It’s through challenges that we often grow the most—discovering better ways to serve, collaborate, and lead. I’m grateful for these lessons, which help us evolve.

Gratitude in Action:

  • Schedule 15 minutes today to reflect on a recent project or meeting. Write down one success and one thing you’d do differently.

  • Create a personal "wins list" that includes both achievements and moments of growth through difficulty, celebrating the journey as much as the destination.

3. Honoring Every Voice

Our shared experiences and unique viewpoints are what enrich our work and fuel innovation. Thankfulness allows us to celebrate the richness of differing perspectives while creating environments where everyone feels valued. The stories you’ve shared about fostering collaboration inspire us to do more.

Gratitude in Action:

  • Identify one small step you can take this week to amplify a unique voice—whether it’s sharing someone’s work, inviting a new perspective, or simply listening more deeply.

  • Take time to journal about how your own voice and perspective have evolved this year—what unique insights are you now brave enough to share?

As you reflect this Thanksgiving, I encourage you to think about the connections, lessons, and opportunities that have shaped your year—including the strength you've shown along the way and the grace that's helped you persevere. Gratitude isn't just about looking back—it's a guide for how we move forward, together.

From our families to yours, wishing you a happy and meaningful Thanksgiving!
