Guide: Your Path to Inclusive Leadership

We have yet to encounter a good leader who sets out to not be inclusive (we said “good”). Often times what happens is someone can unintentionally exclude a person - or even a group. If you’re that person or that group on the outside it doesn't make you feel any better because it was unintentional. Sometimes that exclusion happens because we are rushed. Sometimes it’s because we don’t have the systems in place to help us remain mindful.

This is why we want to share our G.U.I.D.E decision-making process with you. While not an exhaustive set of questions, we've found these questions provide leaders with a wise approach to being more inclusive.

G - Gauge: How will this impact all our people?

U - Unify: Will this create a more inclusive environment?

I - Include: Who needs to be part of this decision?

D - Decide: Is this fair for everyone?

E - Evaluate: How will we know if this worked?

GUIDE offers a straightforward approach to help leaders remain mindful and make more inclusive choices. By consistently asking these questions, you can:

  1. Enhance team engagement

  2. Improve decision-making processes

  3. Create a more inclusive workplace culture

  4. Reduce unintentional exclusion

Remember, the goal isn't perfection, but progress. Each time you apply GUIDE, you're taking a step toward a more inclusive environment where all team members feel valued and heard.
